Juice balcony species characteristics
Juice balcony is very vigorous, full plant, natural branching, high flowering frequency, proper maintenance can be realized year-round flowering. It also has good disease resistance, so it is loved by many flower lovers. Because of its excellent performance, the Juice Balcony has gradually become a starter variety of rose potted plants.
Juice Balcony’s flower color is also very bright, bright orange when it first blooms, and as the flowers open for more time, the flower color gradually becomes lighter and recedes into pink. Because of its long duration of a single bloom, it is often possible to have both orange and pink flower colors on a single rose seedling, or even a single flower on which the outer petals are pink and the inner petals remain orange.
Juice Balcony has a particularly good flowering performance, and the flowers are among the larger of the miniature roses, reaching a diameter of 6-8 centimeters. Stronger branches open in multiples, often with a single bloom that resembles a hand cupped flower, while weaker branches open singly. Overall, it has an amazing amount of flowers and a crop that lasts a long time.
Is this such an excellent rose that you would like to have one? So how can you keep it?
Maintenance pointers to achieve a four-season flowering of Juice Balcony
Juice Balcony is a very flowery species, so how can you make it bloom continuously in all seasons? The following Lan Yao will start from the seedling step by step for you to introduce, to ensure that novice florists can also easily get started.
1. Seedling selection and planting time
The best time to plant roses is in spring and fall/winter, of course, you can also plant roses in winter. As for the summer, the weather is hot, so I don’t recommend you to do it.
As a newbie florist, Lan Yao suggests that you can start seedlings in early spring or April. Most of the roses in early spring are in the stage of dormancy or new buds have just sprouted, this time of the year is suitable for transplanting roses, you can start from the germination of roses to the state of flower bursting, which is a very sense of fulfillment for novice florists.
If you’re really not confident, Lan Yao suggests you wait until April and buy finished potted plants with buds. But the price may be slightly higher than in early spring.
So what’s the right kind of seedling to choose?
Newbie flower lovers are advised to choose seedlings of 1 gallon or above, as larger plants with more branches and bud points will naturally bloom more in the spring. Try to choose seedlings in their original pots and soil, and in early spring, Mei Plant bag seedlings are a more cost-effective choice, and seedlings in root-controlled pots or gallon pots are also good.
It is not recommended to choose too small seedlings, although small seedlings are cheap, but the root system is weak, less branching, spring may only be able to bloom two flowers. Raising roses on the balcony itself is more difficult, and for novice florists, raising small seedlings is even more difficult.
Veteran flower lovers please do not spray, you are free to choose according to your own experience.
2. Correct handling of seedlings after arrival
If it is a juice balcony seedling in early spring, the seedling is in a budding state, you can directly change pots; if it is a seedling with buds, it is recommended that you do not change pots first, you can set the pot maintenance. Here focus on the budding state of the juice balcony after the arrival of the pot operation.
① Prepare loose and breathable potting soil and fertilizer
Balcony potting juice balcony, be sure to use loose and breathable soil, it is recommended to choose rose special nutrient soil, more suitable for the growth of rose roots, root system strong natural seedlings will be stronger.
In addition to the soil, you also need to prepare some bottom fertilizer, it is recommended to use fermented organic fertilizer and slow-release fertilizer. First, mix the fermented organic fertilizer with half of the potting soil, and this part of the soil is used to put on the bottom of the pot.
Note: You can choose ceramic pots or plastic pots with porous bottom, but do not use ceramic pots with only one bottom hole! Ceramic pots may look good, but they have poor air permeability, and the ventilation on the balcony is already poor, so it is not recommended to use them.
② Remove the soil and trim the roots when replacing the pot.
Remove the rose seedlings from their original pots (they can be easily removed by tapping the walls of the pot). If it is a bag seedling, you can use one hand to grab the main trunk, and the other hand to pull the bottom of the bag, and pull out the seedling directly.
After removing the seedling, observe the root system first. If the roots are coiled at the bottom, you can cut off the 2-3 cm thick coiled part at the bottom directly. If the root system is not coiled, you can use a small rake or hand to grasp the periphery of the original soil mass to loosen and remove about 1/3 to 1/2 of the original soil. Seedlings with fewer roots remove 1/3 of the soil, while those with strong root systems can remove 1/2 of the soil and prune the longer roots, cutting them just to the location of the original soil mass retained.
Proper root pruning stimulates the sprouting of new roots, so there is no need to worry.
Once root pruning is complete, fill the pot with the nutrient soil previously mixed with organic fertilizer, place the seedling and adjust the height, then cover with a layer of nutrient soil not mixed with organic fertilizer (about 2-3 cm thick). Place the seedling upright and continue to add nutrient soil until the pot is filled.
Once you have positioned the seedling correctly, pick up the pot and gently tap it on the ground a few times to make the soil fit tightly into the pot. It is generally recommended to leave a space of 2-3 centimeters of soil from the edge of the pot so that it does not overflow when watering.
After planting, sprinkle some slow-release fertilizer on the side of the pot, and refer to the instructions for dosage, which varies from brand to brand. Sprinkle the fertilizer can be covered with a thin layer of soil, or not covered.
③ Slow seedling
After completing the above steps, give a good pot of juice balcony fully watered. If the nutrient soil is dry, you need to repeat watering several times to ensure that the watering is thorough. After watering, put the juice balcony in a position of sufficient light closed maintenance, it is best to raise the pot, so that the seedlings and the window to maintain a balance, to ensure good ventilation.
3. Daily maintenance management focus
Juice Balcony transplanted in early spring will quickly send out new shoots as the weather warms up, and then enter the daily management stage. Here are some key points:
① Grasp the timing of watering
The main problem that many flower lovers can’t keep roses well is watering, especially indoor balconies, which are poorly ventilated and difficult to grasp the timing of watering.
When planting roses for the first time, lift the pot to feel the weight. After watering thoroughly, lift the pot again to feel the weight. The next time you want to water, lift the pot again and feel the weight.
If the pot is obviously light, similar to the feeling when it was not watered before, you can water; if the pot is still heavy, it means that there is still enough water in the soil, so you do not need to water.
② timely application of water-soluble fertilizer
When the new shoots of the juice balcony grow to 2 cm, it is necessary to supplement the water-soluble fertilizer in time.
When watering, synchronize the water with the growth of general-purpose water-soluble fertilizer or nutrient solution in the water, and fully water the potting soil. Take care to ensure that the environment is ventilated after watering thoroughly.
What if it is time to fertilize, but the potting soil is still wet?
If the rose has already grown leaves, you can use a spray bottle to evenly spray the diluted water-soluble fertilizer on the leaves, and spray every other day during the rapid growth period.
If the roses are just sprouting new buds and have not yet spread their leaves, you can postpone the fertilizer application a bit with little effect, after all, organic and slow-release fertilizers have been added when planting.
Throughout the spring, when roses are growing rapidly, pay attention to the timing of watering to avoid overwatering or drought. Also keep irrigating the roots with a water-soluble fertilizer every 5-7 days, and fertilize in conjunction with watering. If watering intervals are more than 7 days, maintain a leaf spray of fertilizer every 2-3 days.
Tip: Leaf spraying and root irrigation fertilizer are not conflicting and can be done at the same time, but pay attention to the dilution times of the fertilizer and follow the instructions strictly.
Before the rose does not grow buds, you can always use nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium balanced growth of universal water-soluble fertilizer. When you see small flower buds appearing at the top of the shoots, switch to a potassium phosphate fertilizer or a flower-promoting fertilizer, and keep the frequency of fertilization the same.
When 1/3 of the buds show color, stop foliar spraying and switch to root-only fertilization, with fertilizer intervals remaining at 5-7 days. The whole flowering period is recommended to adhere to the pursuit of fertilizer, because our pursuit is to let the juice balcony flowers bloom constantly, fertilizer must keep up.
③ Prevention of pests and diseases
The most troublesome thing about balcony roses is pests and diseases, but don’t worry too much, the juice balcony’s disease resistance itself is very good, do a good job of prevention.
In the spring after the juice balcony grows leaves, you can shallowly bury a sufficient amount of small white medicine insecticidal granules at the edge of the pot, once a month, can effectively control aphids, thrips, small green bugs and other common insect pests.
When the new shoots of roses grow to about 5 centimeters, and then shallowly buried in the pot side of a sufficient amount of small black particles or small powder medicine, not only to prevent rotting roots, but also to prevent the common rose black spot disease, powdery mildew and other diseases.
Usually pay attention to keep the environment ventilated, observe the back of the leaves, keep clean. If you find that the back of the leaves have tiny black spots or particles, it may be infected with red spider, you need to rinse it off with water in time and spray the whole plant with mineral oil to prevent and control it.
As long as you do the above points, you can basically say goodbye to the trouble of pests and diseases.
④ timely pruning after flowering
If you want to realize the juice balcony to bloom one crop after another, pruning is very important. When you see the juice balcony flower color becomes lighter, suggesting that the flowers are about to wither, you can cut off the residual flowers in a timely manner. When 2/3 of the flowers have failed, it is recommended that the branches be pruned uniformly, with half the length of the flowering branches cut off, and the buds cut off as well. After pruning, continue to fertilize the plant with a general purpose fertilizer, and it will soon grow new buds and bloom again. This way, the flowers will bloom more neatly, and the amount of flowers will be large each time.
If you want to have flowers all the time, then you can always cut off the flowers that fail to bloom, the whole branch after the failure to cut off half of the blooming branch, and keep the fertilizer, so that a steady stream of new shoots and flowers can be produced into new buds and blooms, but there will be a sequential difference in the flowering period, the benefits of having flowers all the time.
